SOLD OUT! Cocktail Reception Tribute to Julia Child’s Life as Chef and Spy

Submitted by Ron Williams on June 17, 2009 - 7:01amThe International Spy Museum and Stir Food Group will be celebrating the life of notable chef Julia Child with a cocktail reception featuring Julia Child-inspired fare and a cooking demonstration of her famous Coq au Vin presented by Stir Food Group’s Executive Chef Bryan Moscatello. Presiding over the evening and sharing her secret life as an Office of Strategic Services Operative, will be award-winning actress Mary Ann Jung of History Alive! Tickets are priced at $55 per person, and include two glasses of wine and a variety of Child’s favorite dishes.

WHY: Few know that before Julia Child became a world-renowned chef, she was a spy managed by the Office of Strategic Services, an early version of the CIA created during World War II by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. At the International Spy Museum, visitors can visit the Spies Among Us exhibit which examines espionage through World War II, and highlights other real-life spies including singer Josephine Baker, who worked for the French Resistance; director John Ford, who served as Field Photo Chief for the OSS; and actress Marlene Dietrich, who recorded pop songs for the OSS that were broadcast to German soldiers as American propaganda.
