The Grill-Off is an Iron Chef-style competition that pits teams of local chefs, amateur cooks and Brainfood program graduates against each other. Using a pantry of secret ingredients, each team creates and presents their dishes to a panel of food celebrity judges.
Nearly a dozen local chefs will participate in the event, giving Average Joe’s the chance to rub elbows with chefs at the helm of some of the city’s hottest restaurants. This year’s chefs include:
- Daniel Giusti, 1789
- Kyle Bailey, Birch & Barley
- Kevin Villalovos, Cure
- Dean Gold, Dino’s
- Teddy Folkman, Granville Moore’s
- Shannon Overmiller, The Majestic
- Glenn Babcock, Nage
- Bryan Moscatello, Zola and Potenza
For $75 per ticket event goers will get hors d’oeuvres, a buffet meal, wine tastings, open bar, and a front row view of the competition.
This year, Brainfood is excited to offer a few very special live auction items, including:
Dinner for Two with Tom Sietsema, food critic at The Washington Post
Private cooking class for ten, with breakfast pastries, lunch and wine with 1789’s Executive Chef Daniel Giusti and Pastry Chef Travis Olson, RAMMY Pastry Chef of the Year 2009
Italian dinner for eight with wine pairingsat Potenza, with Executive Chef Bryan Moscatello
The auctioneer and emcee for the evening is Leon Harris, news anchor at WJLA-TV.
Brainfood serves a critical need, using food and cooking to teach life skills and health living to our area’s youth in a safe and positive environment. 100 percent of ticket sales will help Brainfood to continue offering after-school and summer programs to local teens, including hands-on instruction, educational field trips and guest chef demos.
