and Celebrate Emerging African-American Fashion Designers
On Friday, September 17, 2010, the merger of creativity and philanthropy yields an evening celebrating promising African-American designers from across the United States. Black Fashion Focus 2010 shines the often-dim light on promising African-American fashion designers.
...In selecting the evening’s designers, considerable emphasis was placed on the broad appeal a designer’s collection exudes, as well as excellence in creative design. The evening's showcase will feature designs from Dena Burton of Los Angeles, California; Essence Flowers of Tampa, Florida; Prajje Jean-Baptiste of Boston, Massachusetts; Travis Cal of Houston, Texas; and Kenny “Kas” Flannagan of Washington, D.C.
Proceeds from the evening will benefit Metro TeenAIDS (MTA), a Washington, D.C. based community health organization. Metro TeenAIDS is dedicated to supporting young people in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Through education, support and advocacy, MTA promotes responsible decision-making, and improves the quality of life for young people who are HIV-positive, at risk of HIV infection, or whose families are coping with HIV/AIDS. Founded in 1988, MTA remains the only organization in the Washington metropolitan area focused on the needs of youth around HIV/AIDS prevention.
Coinciding with the Annual Legislative Conference of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, this evening is sure to be a sell-out social gathering of movers-and-shakers, fashionistas and the socially-conscious to support the dynamic work of Metro TeenAIDS.
