The television documentary Harvest of Shame was first broadcast in November 25, 1960. This installment of the CBS Reports series was the last program in the career of broadcasting legend Edward R. Murrow. Its unflinching account of the plight of migrant farm workers in the United States, some of whom were working for as little as a dollar a day, shocked viewers and prompted thousands of calls and letters from the public.

The screening will be introduced by Bob Edwards, host of The Bob Edwards Show on Sirius XM Radio, and author of Edward R. Murrow and the Birth of Broadcast Journalism. A book signing will follow the program.

In partnership with the 2010 Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital, the Charles Guggenheim Center for the Documentary Film is proud to present this landmark in the history of investigative journalism. (55 minutes.)
