Whether you rooted for Peyton "don't call me double-stuffed" Manning or the "who dats" last Sunday, we all continue to root for the rebuilding of New Orleans.

What better way to celebrate Mardi Gras and some recent birthdays then with an extended progressive happy hour supporting All Souls Church in their efforts to rebuild New Orleans (www.lowernine.org). Come out to Local 16 and rather than buying a drink for Roz and your other friends celebrating a birthday, give a donation to lowernine.org.

Friends of the Lower Nine Include:
Jake Brewer, Julia Cohen, Kate Damon, Colin Delaney, Karen Finney, Emil Hill, Brian Komar, Rosalyn Lemieux, Tom Mattzie, Jayme McLellan, Brina Milikowsky, Julian Mulvey, Elizabth O'Connell, Vicki Rateau, Ali Savino, Thom Wallace.

Drink specials will be offered and prizes raffled. Beads will be provided OR wear your own.

As we help the people of Haiti recover, New Orleans reminds us that rebuilding takes years. Four and 1/2 years after Hurricane Katrina, 17% of residents of the Lower Ninth Ward have returned home; in other parts of the city, more than 60% of residents have returned, despite the fact that much of this neighborhood is on higher ground that other areas that have been rebuilt.

Lowernine.org trains residents and volunteers to restore homes and helps to bring an historic community back to life. It is the only organization rebuilding houses in that part of the city.

Suggested contribution: $20. Give what you can. Come as you are. Learn about the rebuilding. Celebrate the spirit of Mardi Gras and the soul of New Orleans.
