SOLD OUT! Grapes with the Apes

National Zoo
Submitted by Greg on July 5, 2009 - 10:12amTo experience a wine tasting unlike any other this season, attend the Friends of the National Zoo’s annual wine tasting fundraiser, Grapes with the Apes.
This is the only wine tasting event in the area where you’ll be able to sip Pinot with the primates as the Great Meadow transforms into an elegant vineyard terrace where guests will be able to sample wines from a variety of wineries, listen to live music, and enjoy hanging out with the Zoo’s great apes.
With your ticket you will receive a commemorative tasting glass and a free tasting from approximately 20 vineyards, including: Anton Bauer, Barefoot Bubbly, Fabbioli Cellars, First Colony Winery, Philip Carter Winery, Potomac Point Winery, Sunset Hills Vineyards, Underdog Wine Merchants, and Willowcroft Farm Vineyards. Northern Virginian wineries will be selling bottles. You may also purchase full glasses of wine to drink while you wait in the tasting lines.
With a VIP pass, you’ll receive a pre-party in Think Tank with animal demonstrations, a private area within the event site with a bar serving full glasses of wine, champagne tasting, and wine bar restaurants serving hors d’oeuvres. (Note: VIP tickets have already sold out!)
Regular tickets are still available; they are $35 for FONZ members and $50 for nonmembers. You will want to buy your tickets soon though, because they are selling quickly.
Tickets can be purchased through our site (www.nationalzoo.si.edu) or at the Zoo’s gift shop.
