Help WVSA continue it's upcoming 3rd Thursday by joining us in marching to the beat of your own drum at "The Ghana Experience". Kristen Arant, a local drummer, drum teacher and founder of the Young Women's Drumming Empowerment Project (YWDEP) is planning an evening of inspiration based on her recent travels to Ghana, West Africa. Kristen's original mission for her travel spawned after meeting Kweku Owusu, a Ghanian traveling in the US whose work in Ghana parallels Kristen's work in the US. Both are drummers and teachers working to create opportunities and life enhancement for children and youth.

Schedule:

5:30pm: Doors open to view current gallery exhibit and enjoy refreshments.

6:45pm: Community drum circle begins.

7:30pm: Ghanian drum performance by YWDEP founder, director and drum instructor Kristen Arant and Ghanian artist and craftsman Kweku Owusu, followed by a photo and video presentation about their recent experience in Ghana.

In addition, a Ghana market will be on site with handmade drums, instruments, jewelry and clothing available for sale.

This is a WVSA 3rd Thursday event and is free and open to the public. WVSA is located at 16th and L Streets, NW. For more information, call (202) 261-0204 or e-mail gallery@wvsarts.org.
