Approximately 900 young professionals are expected to attend SOME’s perennially sold-out Junior Gala at the Corcoran Gallery of Art.

The event will feature cocktails, dancing and live music performed by the Blue Tips Rhythm Revue.

Junior Gala proceeds will be used to benefit Griffin House, a permanent, supportive service affordable housing program for formerly homeless families and single adults that will open in the spring of 2012. Griffin House will provide 22 apartments for families and 18 private rooms for single adults. A portion of the funds raised at the event will go towards building a playground for the approximately 60 children who will be living at Griffin House. Griffin House is a part of SOME’s Affordable Housing Development Initiative, which was launched in 2005 with a goal of creating 1,000 new units of affordable housing for the District’s homeless and extremely low income residents.

The SOME Junior Gala was created by area natives Molly McNamara and Danielle Perraut in 2003 and is produced by Susan O’Neill & Associates. Successive groups of socially conscious young professionals have led the Junior Gala Board and Committees.

The 2011 Junior Gala Chairs are Dan Bowles, Elena Gex and Kate Manders.

The SOME Junior Gala is black tie optional.

Tickets are $85 and must be purchased in advance. Tickets are on sale now at www.some.org/events_jrgala.html
