COLADA TEAM ANNOUNCES VIRGINIA OPENING DATE TEAM UNVEILS REIMAGINED INTERPRETATION OF ENDURING CUBAN COFFEE AND DELIGHTS

Renowned forerunner in the beverage industry Juan Coronado and partner Daniella Senior are proud to announce Colada Shop, a concept that blends together the contemporary lifestyles of Washingtonians with the Cuban traditions of starting and ending the day. Paying homage to this Caribbean way of doing coffee, food, cocktails and social lifestyle, Colada Shop will be a casual café and eatery where guests come for the quality of offerings and stay for the company. The first location of Colada Shop will open on Monday, August 22nd at 21430 Epicerie Plaza, Sterling, VA.

With Cuba’s mystic history and the team’s recent travels to Havana serving as its inspiration, Colada Shop will take guests on an imaginative journey of the island via classic beverages, cocktails and small bites. In line with Coronado’s and Senior’s Caribbean heritage, the shop will tell the story of Cuba and its remarkable social heritage, colorful ambiance and lively culture paired with their unique signature style and unmatched hospitality.

Central to Colada Shop will be the Cuban-inspired coffee menu which will include an array of caffeinated drinks such as the quintessential coffee, the Colada, which is 4oz of Cuban-style espresso traditionally meant to be shared. Sharing a colada remains a prominent social and cultural activity and is customary of workplace breaks in Cuban communities. Other coffee drinks offered include Café con Leche - a Latin Latte with a shot of Café Cubano and hot steamed milk; Cortadito - an espresso with a splash of steamed evaporated milk and foam; and Café Bon Bon – an espresso with sweetened condensed milk. Coffee drinks will be priced between $2.50 and $6.50.

Enthused by the rich history of Old-Havana and a collection of eras, the beverage program will feature concoctions prepared with precision such as The Mojito (rum, fresh lime and mint) a classic cocktail dating as back as the 1800s; The Piña Colada (rum, roasted coconut milk and pineapple juice); and other reimagined drinks such as The Manicero Negroni, a peanut butter negroni, inspired by the maniceros (Cuban peanut street vendors). In addition, a selection of local and national brews, house-made soft drinks, and specialty coffees will also be featured on the menu. Cocktails will be priced between $6 and $11.

Head Chef Mario Monte brings his Cuban heritage with an ingeniously crafted menu of the best products and ingredients from the region. Featured small bites include the classic Cuban sandwich (slow roasted pork shoulder, Swiss cheese, cured ham, pickles and a signature mojo sauce), as well as reinterpreted comfort nibbles like the Caribbean style pastelitos (pastries filled with tropical flavors such as guava, sweet cream cheese, and Cuban meat pie) and a variety of the iconic Cuban-fritters or croquetas (ham, chicken and mushroom). Food items will be priced between $2 and $11.

“Cuban food is filled with stories and has always been the perfect expression of their culture,” said Senior. “Cubans are passionate about food and sharing it is something they truly love. Our hope is that the spirit of Colada Shop is that of keeping Cuba close to our hearts and that our coffee makers like conversations are continuously buzzing at this place.”

The second Colada Shop location is expected to open in the Fall 2016 at 1405 T St, NW, Washington, DC.
