Get Ready for Fall!

As one of my favorite seasons (second only to summer), fall provides not only a great excuse to break out the tall boots, capes, and coats suffering in the back of our closets all summer long, but a wide variety of events. With  temps ranging from as high as 70s or even 80s during the day to dropping into the 40s to 50s at night, fall events range from outdoor festivals and shopping events to evening cocktail parties and galas.

From indoors to outdoors, daytime events include Taste of DC, Fall in Style Fashion Exchange, or SELF Magazine Pink Celebration. Speaking of pink, in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, CV Skinlabs, a skincare line for those with extra sensitive skin (for example, those receiving chemotherapy or radiation treatment), has created a gift set with 20% of sales going to the Breast Cancer Fund. Of course, if you’re going to be out and about during the day don’t forget sunscreen and sunglasses!  One that is gentle enough on my often sensitive, dry skin, especially during those brisk sunny days (but don’t skip on cloudy days!), is Drunk Elephant’s Umbra Sheer Physical Defense with SPF 30. For sunnies, Kaenon Polarized just launched its new Frost Collection with SR-91®, shatter-resistant lens material, for those cooler weather sports aficionados. Of course, remember the shades and sunscreen for events that run day-to-night like FAD Georgetown, Fashion Truck Fridays or your favorite neighborhood Halloween bar crawl (safety first!).

One of my least favorite aspects of fall is shorter days, but nail shades, like Zoya’s  “Bubbly” Collection can help put you in a festive mood. As bold as the colors appear in the bottle, they brush on pretty sheer. One tip: brush the sparkled orchid shade, Binx, over nudes or cream colored shades to brighten a neutral (aka office friendly) look. Want even more sparkle?  Then run over to UGG Australia and take the “Glitterati Challenge!”  Guess the correct number of crystals in the display, and take home a pair of custom Swarovski jeweled boots (retailing at almost $5K)! Shine on!

For evening, we’re still thinking “pink” with Saks Fifth Avenue’s 2014 Key to the Cure and the 6th Annual Empower Ball in November. The busy fall evening calendar continues with DC’s Dancing with the Star’s Gala and the 6th Annual Walk this Way Charity Fashion event.  For the guys, GQ is coming to Lord & Taylor for a “How To” styling party, and catch the DC premiere of the documentary on Italian master tailors, “Men of the Cloth.”  Keep checking our site for even more happenings and fashion events!
