Hillyer Art Space kick's off the fall exhibition season with two solo exhibitions featuring new artwork by Rachel Schmidt and Michele Montalbano. The gallery will also present Hillyer Contemporaries, a group exhibition featuring select work from Hillyer’s Artist Advisory Committee, to include Renee Stout, John Paradiso, Lorelle Rau, Ellington Robinson, Pattie Firestone, Cianne Fragione, and Pat Goslee. Schmidt will present Apocaloptomist: A Future True Story, a hybrid of installation and interactive works alongside drawings that will be used to explore storytelling and myths that are developing in the expanding urban wildernesses that dominate most contemporary human beings’ lives.  Montalbano will present Babel, a body of work that takes inspiration from the Biblical story of Babel, illuminated manuscripts, and typography to express a lack of understanding between people, the “us and them” that is created by a language barrier.

Guests can meet the artists at the
reception on Friday, September 5th from 6-9pm during Dupont Circle’s First Friday, sponsored by Kramer Books & Afterwords Cafe.
