Women in Film & Video and The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media are pleased to present:

An Evening with Geena Davis Reception and discussion with Ms. Davis about gender in media Screening of Thelma and Louise on the 20th anniversary of its release

For most of us, Ms. Davis embodies the characters she plays on screen. For this evening, we have a chance to discuss those characters with her and to learn how the characterization of women in media has brought her to a very different interaction with media producers and audiences. In 2004, Davis founded The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, the only research-based organization working within the media and entertainment industry to engage, educate and influence the need for gender balance, reducing stereotyping and creating wide variety of female characters in entertainment targeting children 11 and younger. Davis serves on the Board of the White House Project, is an appointee to the California Commission on the Status of Women, is Co-Chair of the Girl Scouts of America Healthy MEdia Commission, serves on the Advisory Board for the Women and Girls Lead initiative of ITVS, and is an official partner of UN Women in their effort to change the way media represents women and girls worldwide. She is a former trustee of the Women's Sports Foundation.
