The cupcake craze is alive and well in DC, but gourmet cupcakery Hello Cupcake will soon be serving up a new way to enjoy these delicious treats. We recently previewed its new cupcake design series, which will allow participants to learn decorating techniques from owner Penny Karas and executive pastry chef Todd Miller. Starting on February 13th, Hello Cupcake will offer two-hour monthly cupcake design classes, each with a unique seasonal theme. There’s a Valentine’s Day class in February, a St. Patrick’s Day class in March (complete with Guinness chocolate cupcakes and Bailey’s Irish Cream frosting), a Cherry Blossom-themed class in April, and a Mother’s Day class in May. Hello Cupcake’s chic, jewel box shop (which has won chef Karas’s husband, architect William Bonstra, several awards) will provide the perfect setting for inspired artistry. As an added incentive, each participant will take home a dozen of their custom creations! Decorating not your delight? Then stop in Hello Cupcake Mondays through Saturdays to purchase your favorite flavor—be it the Peanut Butter Blossom (chocolate cake topped with peanut-butter frosting and a chocolate kiss) or the 24 Carrot (carrot cake studded with walnuts, topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting). Or plan your visit to catch one of Hello Cupcake’s specials, like the Raspberry Beret (chocolate cake topped with raspberry buttercream and chocolate sprinkles) available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, or the Gingerbread cupcake (spicy ginger cake topped with lemon cream-cheese frosting and candied ginger) available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
